Meet the Pelican Lakes Golf Course Team
Jason Kusel, General Manager
Jason Kusel has served as the General Manager for Pelican Lakes Golf Club since July 2018. Jason brings along with him 15-plus years of hospitality experience to Pelican Lakes, most recently working for the highly awarded Gateway Canyons Resort & Spa for the previous nine years. A native of Iowa, Jason moved to Akron, CO in 1994. After graduating high school, he moved to the Western Slope in 2003 to attend Mesa State College where he studied Applied Science and Business. Jason made his way through school by working for The Doubletree by Hilton and studying as a full-time student. It was at that point in his life when he found his passion for working in the hospitality industry. In his spare time, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife (Lauren) and son (August). During the summer, family hikes, fishing and dirt biking are just a few of his hobbies and as the weather gets colder, you can find him cuddled up in front of the fire place with his family enjoying board games and movies.
Doug Hammond, Director of Golf
Doug Hammond is the longest tenured employee at Pelican Lakes. The director of golf has worked in the pro shop since 2004 when he began as a seasonal employee. Doug’s primary responsibility is managing a staff of 8-10 people during the season, and also organizes the member and public tournament schedules. Doug also oversees the 192-person Thursday Night Men’s League, which is believed to be the largest west of the Mississippi River. The native of Draper, SD, Doug and his wife Susan, along with their four boys – Kyle, Garrett, Jake and Justin – moved to Windsor in 1999. Doug has coached the Windsor High School boys’ and girls’ golf teams, and spent five years as the school’s junior varsity boys’ basketball coach.
Jeff Orr, Golf Course Superintendent
Jeff Orr is no stranger to Pelican Lakes. The Golf Course Superintendent has worked at the club since 2003 when he first joined the maintenance staff as a spray tech. Jeff was fresh out of Colorado State University having completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape & Horticulture Technologies with an emphasis in Turf when he was hired at Pelican Lakes. Jeff was born in Austin, Texas, and moved to Fort Collins in 1996 from Boca Raton, FL to attend Fort Collins High School and CSU. While in college Jeff worked on the maintenance staff at Boomerang Links in Greeley. Jeff and his wife Cinda have two daughters, Allie and Collins, and when he’s not working he enjoys playing golf, touring breweries and hanging out with the family.
Stacy Kleve, Head PGA Golf Professional/ Director of Merchandise
Stacy Kleve has called Pelican Lakes his professional home since 2003 when he first entered the golf business as an assistant pro. Stacy has been the head golf professional since 2011. He also handles all the club’s merchandise and provides lessons and club fittings. Stacy is a native of Nebraska and received a business finance Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before moving to Northern Colorado in 1990. Besides golf, Stacy’s other athletic passion is basketball. During the winter months Stacy is a high school basketball official for both boys’ and girls’ games. Stacy makes his home in Windsor with his wife Missy and their two children Burley and Macy.
Kenny Anderson, Director of Player Development
The 2017 season will be Kenny Anderson’s 30th as a golf professional. The native of Greeley, CO is the Director of Player Development at Pelican Lakes and began his career in 1987 as an assistant golf professional at Whispering Palms Golf & Country Club in San Diego. After a short stint as an assistant at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, CA, Kenny returned to his hometown in 1991 as an assistant at Highland Hills Golf Club. Upon receiving his Class A certification from the PGA in 1993, Kenny became the Head Golf Professional at the newly opened Boomerang Golf Links in Greeley. In 2007 Kenny ventured to Greeley Valley Ranch Golf Club and in a few short years became the head pro. He established himself at Pelican Lakes in 2014. Kenny and wife Kara have two children, Haley and Koby. Kenny is the current head coach of the Windsor High School boys’ and girls’ golf programs, and coached the 2018 girls’ team to the Class 4A state championship.
Jason Weizenegger, Golf Course Assistant Superintendent
Jason started at Pelican Lakes in the spring of 2007 as the Assistant Superintendent of the Falls. He now takes care of the front 9 and the Falls. Jason worked at Highland Meadows golf course as an Irrigation Tech during grow in and was promoted to 2nd assistant after two years. When Jason is not at work, he enjoys playing golf with family and friends, and spending time with his wife Erika and daughters Madison and Rory.
Adam McDonald, Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Adam McDonald has been with Pelican Lakes since 2004. Adam was hired at Pelican Lakes as a seasonal employee, and has since become an Irrigation Tech, Spray Tech and now an Assistant Superintendent. Adam is in charge of the back nine, wedding island and landscapes around the club and offices. When Adam is not working he enjoys golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time with family.
Kate O'Halloran, Club Administrative Assistant
Kate O’Halloran was born and raised in Colorado and has been working in the service industry since she was 17. Kate attended the University of Northern Colorado and started at Pelican Lakes in 2013. She joined the management team in 2015. After several years working in the restaurant, Kate is the Club Administrative Assistant. Kate has one daughter with her husband, Mitch, and 3 dogs. She enjoys golfing, traveling, camping year-round and exploring the mountains.
Pepper, The Goose Chasin' Border Collie
Pepper the Goose Dog was born on a ranch in Utah and in her early years was trained as a cattle dog. She then went to work with Tim Eubank’s Denver-based Zero Geese company, and he fully trained her at her current occupation as a goose dog. She started her career at Pelican Lakes in 2016 and since then has been running approximately 10 miles a day. Several times a day, every day, Pepper sits shotgun in a cart with a golf course employee as they traverse the paths on our 27 holes. She only exits the cart when geese do not vacate the turf, and that’s when her hunting skills fully kick in. When she’s not goose chasing, Pepper is usually found behind the pro shop counter curled up in a ball, or begging to be pet. The next time you’re in the pro shop, welcome Pepper to the family. She’s by far our friendliest employee.
Meet the Pelican Lakes Restaurant Team
Mike Brady, Director of Maintenance & Development
Mike Brady is a nearly four-decade veteran of the restaurant and bar business. The Director of Maintenance and Development of Pelican Lakes has served in this capacity off-and- on for 10 years. Mike is also the owner of a small pizza restaurant within the Water Valley community. Mike and his wife of over 30 years, Jo, currently live in Water Valley but have lived in 10 different states. Together they have three children and five granddaughters. Mike is a former vice president of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, an active supporter of the Windsor RE-4 School District and RE-4 Foundation and when he’s not working or donating his time, he can be found on the golf course or casting a line in a lake.
James Warnock, Executive Chef
James Warnock grew up in Eagle Rock, CA. His love of the culinary arts began as a small child when he would spend time cooking with his grandparents. James was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard from 1999-2001, serving in San Francisco, New Jersey and New Orleans. James attended Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School and graduated in 2003. He moved to Colorado in 2006 and worked at the Doubletree Hotel in Grand Junction as the Executive Chef. In 2010, he began working at Gateway Canyons Resort and Spa. James started as the Executive Chef of Pelican Lakes in February 2019. In his free time, James spends time with his wife, Jenni, and their 3 children, Jayden, Rylee and Jaxen. They enjoy road trips, sporting events, and BBQing, and cooking for friends and family.
Lorna Sisko, Director of Sales & Events
Lorna Sisko was born and raised in the great state of Maine. She got her start in events in 2001 while skiing the Western Slopes of Colorado in Crested Butte and working weddings at Crested Butte Country Club. She has been with Pelican Lakes since 2015 and loves her job as the Director of Sales and Events. In her spare time, Lorna enjoys skiing, hiking, camping & music with her husband, friends and dog and can sometimes be found enjoying a cold libation on a sunny patio in Fort Collins.
Mary Kennedy, Bar Manager
Mary Kennedy was born and raised in Fort Collins, CO. She has worked at Pelican Lakes on and off since 2011 and joined the management team in 2016. As bar manager, Mary enjoys running Wine Dinners and other similar events. She also has a passion for craft beer. When she is not at Pelican Lakes, Mary enjoys spending time with her family. She also enjoys reading, hiking and traveling.
Shannon Shafer, Director of Catering
Shannon has been on the staff at Pelican Lakes since August 2010. The Colorado native manages all types of catering events, specializing in weddings. She has worked with weddings in various capacities for over a decade. Shannon loves the diversity of each couple, witnessing their big day come together, and showcasing their individuality as a couple. Shannon and husband Dave were married at Pelican Lakes in 2016. They welcomed their first child, a girl, in late 2018. They also have a pet hedgehog named Pepper. She enjoys spending time with her family, watching crime dramas and nature shows, baking, crafting and exploring Colorado.
Kristy Henes, Banquet Manager
Kristy Henes was born and raised in a small town in North Dakota and has lived in Fort Collins, CO for nearly 10 years. Kristy has been in the banquet and event industry for the past 15 years, working in all aspects of events and banquets. She joined Pelican Lakes in early 2019. When Kristy is not working, she enjoys going to concerts, camping, traveling, Facetiming with her new nephew, and welcoming foster dogs in to her home to hang out with her dog, Peaches.

Kurt Hinkle, Director of Marketing & PR
Kurt Hinkle moved to Windsor in 1998 after he received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado in news editorial journalism. The native of Sterling, CO enjoyed a 10-year career as a reporter and editor of the Windsor Beacon newspaper and another five years serving as the general manager of the student-run The Mirror newspaper at UNC before joining the Water Valley Land Company in 2014 as its director of marketing and public relations. Kurt initiates and maintains the marketing, communication, social media and public relations of the Water Valley Land Company, the Water Valley community, the Pelican Lakes Golf Club, its restaurants and Windsor’s RainDance master-planned community. Kurt and wife Jill raise their teenage son Carter in Water Valley and spend their leisure time playing golf, attending live music, skiing, traveling, and spending most weekends with friends and family.
Janice Fitzsimmons, Human Resources Manager
Janice Fitzsimmons is a Southern California native who moved to her adopted state of Colorado in 2007. Janice is a Certified Human Resources Manager and a graduate of Cal State University in San Bernardino California. She is the Human Resources Manager at Trollco, Inc. the parent company of Pelican Lakes. Janice has worked at Trollco with brief intermissions since 2008. In her leisure time, Janice enjoys traveling, hiking, camping and spending quality time with her awesome family in Southern California.
