2022 Pelican Lakes Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons are available to all members.
Group & Private Lessons: 7-9:30 a.m., Monday - Saturday, $20/participant, $40/private participant
Intro to Water (3-6 years) These classes consist of the children getting comfortable with the water. This includes “blowing bubbles” which gets the child’s face in the water. Front/back float position which enables the child to comfortably and safely stay in the water. Forward movement gets the child to safely move in the water in a streamline position. Forward movement can also be paired with simultaneous arm/leg actions. All these skills have modifications that increase in difficulty. These classes are labeled as: Polliwog | Tadpole | Froggie
Level 1 (6+ years) This first level of swim lessons is for 6+ kids who haven’t swam before. Similar to Intro to Water, this level has the child get comfortable in the water while also learning important safety lessons. Level 1 will have the child float, glide, and perform arm/leg actions. Introduction of different stroke components will be taught.
Level 2 (6+ years) The second level of swim lessons uses the same objectives as level 1 but increases in difficulty. Children will perform exercises for a longer duration of time. Adding more stroke components will be taught. Additionally, treading water will be introduced.
Level 3 (6+ years) The third level of swim lessons will get the children fully comfortable submerged underwater. Children will learn how to swim underwater while also performing skills from the previous two levels. Freestyle swimming should be perfected. Children will be introduced to the full stroke (breaststroke) using arms and legs.
Level 4 (6+ years) The next three levels are for experienced swimmers and working to perfect stroke technique. Level 4 will have children swim at least 25 yards and tread water for 1 minute. Instructors will help children perfect stroke technique.
Level 5 (6+ years) Level 5 of swim lessons will increase the distances and times that children need to swim. Children will also swim and retrieve items underwater in deeper areas. Children will also be introduced to new stroke techniques.
Level 6 (6+ years) Level 6 is for highly experienced swimmers who have perfected stroke techniques. This level will have children swim greater distances as well as treading water for 5+ plus minutes. Focus on longer continuous swimming.
